Pears
Pears are a great source of fiber and a good source of beta-carotene, folic acid, vitamin C, boron, calcium, iodine, iron, phosphorus, and potassium. Pears also contain a great deal of pectin which helps to reduce cholesterol and slows the digestion and absorption of carbohydrates.
Pears are great for the intestines and help to dissolve uric acid.
Most of the nutrients of the pear are concentrated in the peel, so be sure to purchase organic when possible. Pears are usually sold unripe but may be ripened if left at room temperature or if placed in a paper bag. Pears are ripe when they yield slightly to pressure when pressed with your finger. After they ripen, store them in the refrigerator.
Some serving ideas are to enjoy pears in a freshly juice, as part of a pie, or sliced in a fruit salad.
