Why Raw Food?
Why Raw Food? What is raw food anyway?
A couple of typical questions that I get. Only I usually may hear the question accompanied by some strange and turned up faces, or shocking looks. It tickles me…really
The answer to me is simple: Why not?
Why would you NOT want to be healthy? Why would you NOT want to feel good about the food that you are feeding your body on a regular basis? Why would you NOT want to have clearer thinking, abundant energy, and release unwanted weight?
So what is raw food?
Surprisingly, some people are not very clear on what does NOT constitute raw food. It kind of reminds me of when I first started a vegan (plant-based) diet. Some people tell me that the food they cooked was okay for me, it just had a little bit of chicken broth in it…hmmmm….
Raw vegan food consists of raw fruit, vegetables, seeds (pumpkin, sunflower, hemp, flax, etc), and nuts. Raw food is not heated above 118 degrees.
For clarification purposes, raw vegan food does NOT include the following:
- Raw meat of ANY kind, including seafood
- Canned vegetables, fruits, etc
- Boxed snacks that sit on the shelves for 1 or 2 years, unless it specifically says “raw” or “live food” (even that case it will not be made to sit on the shelf for years)
- Butter, eggs, refined sugars, or raw or pasteurized animal milk of ANY kind
Remember: What we put into our body, comes out in one form or another. Food that our body cannot recognize or assimilate may manifest in the form of acne, excess weight, constipation, dis-ease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, allergic reactions, etc. All of this can be healed holistically and naturally, if one so chooses. Also dis-ease and illness is holistic, with food being one aspect. Some other aspects are physical, mental, emotional, environmental, and lifestyle related.
So a little simple science and background on cooking food:
When food is cooked, the molecular structure of the food is changed. If food is cooked above 118, then the necessary enzyme or life force is destroyed. The enzymes and life force helps with digestion and provide us with the nutrients that we need. The nutritional value of cooked food is also much lower or in some cases of extreme cooking, non-existent. Also, please do not believe that the juice from greens that have been cooking for four or five hours (in some cases) contains all of the nutrients, the juice is dead as well. Cooking food at high heat also makes the digestive process much more complex for our bodies (which results in gas, indigestion, bloating, heavy feeling after eating, etc).
Eating raw and living food helps to revitalize the body, replenish and feed your cells, as well as energize you! So as I stated before...Why not? Who doesn't want to be healthy? Who doesn't want to have abundant amounts of energy? Who doesn't want to feel good and have mental clarity?
Some additional benefits are:
- Weight management (loss or gain depending on your body's needs)
- Clearer skin
- Noticeable change in strength, stamina, and energy levels
- Healthier and stronger body defense system (also known as immune system)
- Removal of harmful toxins in the body
- Helps to heal symptoms of various illnesses or dis-eases--helps bring your body back in balance and helps optimal health to manifest
- Meals are more fulfilling and you may not require as much food to feel satisfied
- No more slaving over the stove
- Eat food that you love without all of the "guilt"!
- You can finally can stop counting calories all of the time!
There are also other effects such as greater mental and spiritual clarity. Live foods help provide more oxygen to the brain, which increases
your ability to think clearer. You may also notice an ability to live a fuller life, be more confident, youthful, and focus on peace and prosperity in your life.
Remember: You do not have to eat 100% raw food to enjoy the benefits that raw vegan food provides! You body will thank you for all of the goodness that you provide it with!
