Making Moves Towards A Healthier Diet
I thought I would share some info and tips on how to take the step to eat a healthier diet. Many people ask me this question. It is much easier than people believe. Healthy raw food dishes can be as elaborate or as simple as you choose. If you hardly work with foods in their raw state to create dishes, it may seem to be difficult. Keep in mind that these dishes can be very elaborate, and that is where the complexity may come in. Many people see dishes such as lasagna, pastas, cakes, cookies, and salads and imagine the complexity that may be involved and decide that it is not for them, that they do not have time, or that eating this way is too difficult to do.
Well, I’m here to tell you, you have all the time in the world!
To make your diet healthy, like EVERYTHING ELSE, first requires making a decision to do so. Everything that we do is based on free will. We have the free will to do whatever we choose and that extends to how we will spend our money on, who we spend our time with, what movies we watch, and what foods we eat. People who do not eat a healthy diet, do so based on choice. That is the bottom line. Just as we decide to spend extra money on unhealthy foods and material possessions that will not necessarily help us in any way, we can choose to spend that money on things that will help us reach a better state of health and well-being. Make the choice.
After making a conscious choice and decision to eat a healthier diet, next you want to decide what exactly healthy means to you. From a raw food perspective that can mean anything from eating more fresh fruit for breakfast to incorporating more healthy salads, sides, entrees, and desserts into your diet. This conscious decision to eat a healthier diet should also include a goal. Choose a goal that is attainable for you and that makes sense. Next, decide why this is a goal for you. When starting off, you want the goal to be a one that will not require a lot of stress when starting because the extra stress may actually deter you from reaching for and attaining that goal.
Then, you want to decide how you will attain that goal. For instance if your goal is to lost 5 pounds in 2 weeks, you will then determine what it will take. Do you need to make visits to the grocery store two or three times per week for the freshest food? Do you need to prepare your lunch on the night before? Do you need to plan your meals on Sunday afternoon so that you are sure to be prepared during your work week? Decide all of this ahead of time.
Next, determine the deadline for doing everything that you need to do. For instance, by Sunday afternoon at 5:00pm I will have all of my recipes and shopping list organized to go shop for my groceries that night. Make them specific. If they are time-sensitive, make sure that you determine that time. Remember, the goal must be attainable.
Next, where will you need to go to attain this goal? One big problem for people who are initially trying to kick bad eating habits is being around certain food and/or people who they allow to influence them to abandon their goals. If you know that the smell of the food in the cafeteria at work may be an issue for you in the beginning, make a decision to eat your lunch in another place, perhaps alone in your office our go outside to enjoy the fresh air while you are eating. Moving to the next level sometimes require that we make minor and temporary changes in our current comfort levels.
Another concept to motivate yourself is by mentally activating the feelings that you will attain your goal. See yourself 5 or 10 pounds lighter. Believe that you can achieve this goal! Have faith in yourself that you will reach your goal. Realize that you deserve it! Only focus on the goal, not the “perceived” obstacles. See yourself in that new dress or see yourself fitting into those jeans that you have not been able to wear in years. When you are eating that healthy raw chocolate brownie, feel the sweetness working all throughout your system. See yourself having fun and realize that you are eating this way for your health. It’s okay! You can do it! When you are eating all of these fresh foods, you will start to feel them working and it will activate the thoughts and feelings that you are on the right track.
Above all, remain positive. Take back power over your own health. Only you are responsible for your health, no one else. You deserve to be healthy! It is your birthright.
